*Funded AmountThe Funded Amount for each Area of Research may include 100% of the total grant amount (not listed in this table) even for grant projects that only partially focus on that Area of Research. For example, the full grant amount of a project that focuses 90% on treatment and 10% on survivorship is included in the Funded Amount for both Areas of Research.

†Specific AmountThe Specific Amount for each Area of Research is the portion of the total grant amount (not listed in this table) relevant to that specific Area of Research. For example, if a grant project focuses 90% on treatment and 10% on survivorship, 90% of the grant value will be included in the Treatment Specific Amount and 10% in the Survivorship Specific Amount. The Grand Total for the Specific Amount column is the sum of the Specific Amounts funded for all listed Areas of Research.

‡ Not Categorized - Three award mechanisms are not classified using these categories: Institutional Research Grants, Fostering Innovation Awards, and Diversity in Cancer Research Institutional Development Grants.

§ The total Extramural Specific Amount represents the research and training grants awarded during 2022. This number may not exactly match the financial reporting for research expenditures for that time.
