What Keeps Me Going

I am passionate about the prospect of my research contributing to the reduction of cancer disparities and increase in health equity for people with cancer."

At ACS since 2021

As Senior Scientist in Health Services Research, Qinjin, Fan, PhD, collaborates with other researchers at the American Cancer Society (ACS) to both measure spatial variations in access to cancer care and explore the spatial-temporal patterns of cancer outcomes. She investigates their associations with potential risk factors, as well as with social determinants of health and health policies. Health Services Research is part of the Surveillance & Health Equity Research Department.

Her research aims to inform the efforts to eliminate systematic barriers that contribute to inequity across the cancer care continuum.

Research focus and accomplishments

Fan’s research focuses on the national patterns of:

  • Cancer care accessibility and how it affects cancer outcomes
  • Health disparities
  • Housing insecurity among patients with cancer

She uses geospatial techniques in cancer health services research, investigating geographic variations in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survival. Her research also quantifies and evaluates the impact of factors that contribute to cancer disparities, including socioeconomic status, race/ethnicity, and health insurance.
