The American Cancer Society and Kohl’s have partnered to create the Kohl’s Healthy Families program to reduce the burden of cancer in southeast Wisconsin. The program’s activities include: implementing youth-focused wellness initiatives, increasing education and access to resources, and assisting patients who face the greatest barriers to cancer screening and treatment.

Kohl's Healthy Families program highlights include:

  • Educational materials about the prevention and early detection of cancer, such as the Healthy Families Guidebook, which provides tools to help families reduce their risk of cancer. It focuses on making healthy lifestyle choices regarding nutrition and physical activity and provides guidance around cancer screening. Information is presented in an easy to understand format that includes recipes, exercise ideas, and stress management tips for the entire family.
  • School health initiatives that help parents and school leaders create sustainable changes to improve students’ health. Participating schools can receive support assessing their wellness policies and creating an action plan, as well as access materials like the School Wellness Toolkit and Youth Cancer Prevention Booklet. School wellness grants provide funds to implement healthy changes and share ideas with other grantees.
  • Educational materials, such as the Guide for Patients with a Recent Cancer Diagnosis, which helps patients and their families answer common questions about cancer, offers suggestions when talking with their health care team, and provides support through the treatment process.
  • An online resource with information on reducing your risk of cancer by maintaining a healthy weight, eating healthy foods, and being physically active. Visit acskohls.org to learn more.
  • Outreach workers at American Cancer Society and other community events who engage and educate individuals in a fun and interactive way about how healthy eating, an active lifestyle, and sun safety can reduce cancer risk.
  • Kohl’s sponsorship of several American Cancer Society community events
    • Presenting sponsor – Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Milwaukee (since 2010)
    • Exclusive sponsor – Community Health Worker Conference (since 2010)
    • Sponsor – several Relay For Life and Schools vs Cancer events in southeast Wisconsin (since 2015)
